Boudoir Photography in America, by the Numbers
We maintain a directory of every US boudoir photography studio we can verify — 5,199 of them, holding 200,986 client reviews between them. That gives us a rare, ground-level view of a niche that is usually all vibes and no numbers: what a session really costs, how few studios will tell you before you ask, where the country's boudoir capitals are, and which states have the most photographers per resident. This is our original research, and every figure below is free to cite with a link. Updated 2026-07-24.

The niche's biggest client frustration, measured: how few boudoir photographers show a price before you enquire — national and ranked by state.

What boudoir studios specialize in
Boudoir is not one thing. Bridal clients, expecting parents, couples, milestone and self-love sessions, and first-timers all want different things — and studios say so. Here is the share of US studios that name each focus, an evidence floor mined from their own listings and reviews (a studio can appear under more than one).
| Specialty | Studios | Share of all studios |
|---|---|---|
| Maternity boudoir | 1,407 | 27.1% |
| Bridal boudoir | 680 | 13.1% |
| Size-inclusive | 524 | 10.1% |
| Glamour & pin-up | 430 | 8.3% |
| Couples boudoir | 372 | 7.2% |
| Mature (40+) | 159 | 3.1% |
| Male boudoir (dudeoir) | 67 | 1.3% |
How many boudoir studios are woman-owned or all-female?
For a lot of clients this is the first filter, not the last — an all-female or woman-owned studio is what makes a vulnerable shoot feel safe. At least 7.2% of US boudoir studios (375) explicitly present as all-female or woman-owned. Read that as a floor, not a ceiling: many woman-run studios simply do not say so on their website, so the real figure is higher — this counts only the ones that state it plainly. We badge them so you can find them: all-female boudoir photographers.
The geography, in one line each
- Per resident, the densest state for boudoir is Montana at 3.43 studios per 100,000 people — though small states swing hard on a handful of studios, so the full ranking is the honest picture.
- By count, Indianapolis, IN is America's boudoir capital with 41 studios (4.6 per 100k residents) — the rest of the top cities are one click away.
- Nationally, there are about 1.53 boudoir studios per 100,000 residents — a specialist service that clusters in and around big metros rather than spreading evenly.
Method & reuse. Figures come from our continuously maintained national directory of 5,199 US boudoir photography studios (public business listings, scoped to US listings). Pricing, specialty, all-female and starting-price attributes are proven from each studio's own website or its client reviews — never assumed from a category — so those counts are floors that grow as our crawls continue. Population is US Census Bureau Vintage 2024 estimates; per-capita = studios ÷ population × 100,000. Everything here is free to quote, chart and republish under CC BY 4.0 with a link to this page.
